(regarding a stay in December 2010)
We've been there during the Winter and it's was great choice for those holidays. Like other user said, it's about 5min walk to the beach and although is not right next to the sea, you will always have place to park your car near the building and besides that it's really quiet, there is no traffic noise. Between the main supermarket or the small ones it was possible to get all the goods you might need. Anyway if you want see some other options Viana do Castelo it's just nice trip along the national road. The house it's well equipped and it was pretty much like living in our own house. Personally, we liked the decoration with some vivid colours which contrast with the grey sky during the rainy days (normal during Winter...). For those who like to swim there is a recent swimming pool with 25m long plus 2 lanes with 50m long. Usually we went before lunch and it was almost empty. The owner is a honest and practical guy who is easy to speak with and gives you some nice tips for restaurants and places to visit. We highly recommend it (^_^)

We stayed in September and the apartment was very nice. The furnishings and kitchen are quite modern, and the photos do not do it justice. It feels very much like someone's house, rather than a generic rental property.
It is perhaps a 4 minute walk to the beach, which is nice. The main Supermercado is only a 10 minute walk along the main road. The patio was a nice, peaceful area for dining too. The mattresses were new and excellent, quite firm.
Overall excellent value for money, and if you want a week in and around Vila Praia de Ancora it is a nice little apartment. The owner is quite friendly too. It is well off the main road, so no noisy traffic.
