4 Great Water Views from aloysiuos 13/Apr/2013 (regarding a stay in March 2013)

We had a great time here, scenery was fantastic and nearness of local markets made it an excellent place to stay. Local folks were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

5 from Conny 23/Sep/2012 (regarding a stay in September 2012)

What a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful house and 2 floors so i had my own floor. Very Nice person who rent us the house. People in mosteiros are also very friendly. I certainly want to go back there!

5 wonderful place. from monique s. 21/Sep/2012 (regarding a stay in September 2012)

What a wonderful place to stay. The view is amazing and Maria is a lovely landlady. She told us a lot of things to do around the island and also some tips where to eat. We went to a few of them and she was right, they were great. The house is very spacious and spotles. It's in a small village but you can get everything you need in the 2 minimarkets.

5 Three reasons to stay….. from Malcolm from Scotland 13/Sep/2012 (regarding a stay in August 2012)

Firstly this is probably the best location in the whole of Sao Miguel. The house is right by the sea, looking across the harbour and bay to Mosteiros’ famous rocks offshore. A walk of about 150 metres takes you to the local mini-market, while the village boasts two restaurants and a couple of cafes, all within easy walking distance. If you want a swim, the beach is a half mile stroll in one direction while the sea pools are the same distance in the opposite direction. For children there is a tiny beach and safe sea pool right opposite.

Secondly, the house is both immaculately clean and well equipped. Don’t be deceived by the photographs. Inside there is a spacious lounge with full height window and double glass door. overlooking the sea; large double bedroom, and smaller room with two single beds, a bathroom with shower on each floor (with endless hot water) and an adequate and well equipped kitchen. For outside dining there is a table and four chairs out at the front where you can watch the sunset, whilst at the back is another table and chairs together with two sun beds backing on to a large private garden with lawns and flower beds. Incidentally there is also a barbecue at the rear.

Thirdly, and most importantly is the welcome and the hospitality of Maria Ferreira, the owner. Maria is on hand whenever you need her, be it for advice on places to visit or assistance in organizing activities. Maria was so kind and friendly to us, and her English made up for our total lack of Portuguese. Throughout our stay little gifts of fruit and vegetables kept appearing at our door.

There is just one reason not to stay. If the kind of holiday you like is the type you get in Blackpool, Benidorm or Bodrum then Mosteiros is not for you. A glass of wine with your neighbours and passing the time of day with the passers by is about as busy as the nightlife gets in the village and nobody ever tries to sell you anything on Sao Miguel!

5 Excellent from Tim 22/Jul/2012 (regarding a stay in May 2012)

We had a great time when we stayed here for nine days in June.
The house was above our expectations, the living area was spacious light and airy. All was well equipped. There was a reliable hot water supply to the shower and it was generously sized, no sticky shower curtains. There was an outside shower too, which was great for after snorkelling and swimming. Maria was a perfect host, very welcoming and generous with some good advice. But she knew when to leave us to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Mosteiros is a small quiet town, not dominated by tourism and with a visible local community. There are three main areas with access to the sea, the black sand bathing beach five minutes walk to the south, the cove with a small fishing harbour and to the north the fascinating natural rock pools. We really liked the position of the house which is right by the sea in the fishing cove. From the living room and the terrace there are great views of the sea, the fishing boats and the islands. This cove has very little sand but if you don't mind rocks it is great for swimming and snorkelling. If you understand the rip currents which occur on the rougher days it is sometimes possible to surf there too.
There are two local shops which had all we needed including fresh bread. There are also a few local restaurants and bars. So we found we only needed a car for half the time we were there as the was enough to do in Mosteiros. However a car was invaluable for seeing the nearby sights of Sete Cidades. We spent three days touring that area. If you area a very fit hill walker you could reach Sete Cidades by country tracks. But beware the dogs guarding the cattle and carry a big stick!
We have stayed in many places up and down mainland Portugal but this was our first in the Azores. We consider it the best and would love to return if we have the opportunity.
