This Casona de Indiano (house built by an emigrant returned rich to his hamlet) , built in 1880, consists of two buildings: The stone cubic shaped casona and a tower added to it around 1930, before the Spanish Civil War.
It is 650 m2 built, surrounded by an antique garden with a tall palm tree, a huge wisteria, pear trees...furnished with long chairs. There is a front porch with tables and chairs,as well as a terrace onlooking the back garden and the sea beyond the church.
It has undergone various reforms so as to make it cosy and congenial, the property taking extreme care to use the traditional materials, such as real stone, thick local pinewood and hand made tiles.Electric heating has been installed throughout the house and tower.
There are several drawing rooms, one with a fireplace, in the tower. Two kitchens. Five bathrooms. A large glass gallery onlooking the mountains. Two triple bedrooms. One single connected with a double bedroom. Two rooms with two single beds each. Two more rooms with double beds. In all, 17 persons are accomodated. It is complete with tapestries, good painting, style furniture, colonial objects...Vaiselle and cutlery are abundant, as it is the kitchen equipment. There is a tumble dryer, electric and gas ovens, a microwave, two fridges, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee makers, toaster, squeezer, iron... The library includes books in various languages, table games, chess, backgammon, cards...
Built by an inmigrant who made his fortune in Cuba, this unique villa is one of the landmarks in the coastal Camino de Santiago, as it is not only on the route, but it makes up a very special group with the Church of Santiago and another two very special houses.
At walking distance from the most gorgeous beaches in Asturias, it also lies on a hill protected by the massive of El Sueve. This rends a microclimate, extremely mild with fresh summers and mild winters.
Opposite the house it is "Protected Lanscape of La Sierra del Sueve" which means that no building can be ever considered there. Google Earth shows a bird`s eye view of the house when searching Caravia.
Activities and attractions
Between mountain and beaches, the landscape is so gorgeous it´s difficult to describe. This area has the record of the highest mountain "El Sueve"closest to the shore in Europe, and La Raposerina stands on a hill between both. The large, lonely beach called La Espasa is at walking distance and has a splendid restaurant to make beach days easy. There are plenty of other wonderful beaches or trekking. some villages are worth a visit, like Colunga, Lastres, Villaviciosa, Ribadesella, Llanes... Larger cities like Oviedo or Gijón are well worth a visit, about half an hour's drive from the house. In Berbes we have a nice golf course with breathtaking views on sea and sierras. There is great interest for surf in the area. And for those with gastronomic interests, Asturias in general, and Oriente (our area) in particular, boast one of the best cuisines in Spain.

It is a Casona de Indiano, which accounts for the placement by the road, which in these times has become local. It´s such a little village, traffic is not such an issue. It is true that we cannot isolate the windows as they belong to the 19th century and we shouldn´t destroy their character, but we try to isolate the panes. On the other hand, the autoroute runs three km away, making connections quite practical.
