The accommodation

Il Rifugio Sa Corti, set in the forest of the Sette Fratelli Regional Park, is entirely self-sustainable, without WIFI and telephone network, a desired choice as it allows you to enjoy "Digital Detox" holidays, that is, far from the digital pollution of the city.

To have the opportunity to experience an active digital detox holiday, we will offer you a range of experiences that will stimulate the 5 senses.

Rifugio Sa Corti is an ancient mountain dwelling, built about 60 years ago. It is of recent architectural recovery thanks to the skilful intervention of its owners.

Initially used as a base for the family's mountain activities, today it has been used as a holiday home, but not just a common holiday home!
The structure is divided into four apartments on two independent levels. Your apartment it is on the ground floor, it is ideal for two people.

The accomodation is an open space with bathroom, bedroom, kitchen equipped with a wood-burning oven and a living area equipped with a wood-burning stove capable of heating the entire house even during the coldest temperatures.

Wood and stone are predominants inside the house; these elements create a welcoming atmosphere. It is completely integrated with the surrounding environment.

Last but not least, the external water tub located in the upper part of the Rifugio. In the summer days it will allow you to admire a panoramic view of the southern part of the park in absolute relaxation.

The Rifugio has a front garden from which it is possible to observe the landscape and come into direct contact with nature, while from the back of the house it is already possible to smell the scents of the forest as there is no separation with it.

The 5 Senses of Rifugio. What you will find inside the house.

The 5 senses, such as sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, can be stimulated inside the Rifugio through actions that seem obvious at first sight, which unfortunately, however, gradually get lost in everyday life.

Within the Rifugio itself, you have at your disposal a series of elements capable of stimulating your senses.

Books will be available to guests allowing them to read, without distractions and interruptions (sight).

Your hearing will be pleasantly awakened by scratching an old vinyl or a guitar for guitarist!

The kitchen is available, so guests can prepare delicious candlelit dinners and can choose their wine from a selection of native grapes for taste.

The organic vegetable garden, the orchard and the chestnut grove, depending on the season, will allow sowing and harvesting (tact).

Throughout the Rifugio you will be wrapped by a Mediterranean essence perfectly in tune with the surrounding environment and you will find an olfactory path for the sense of smell!

For the most romantic, the surrounding nature offers you everything you need for the stimulation of the 5 senses, from the chirping of birds, the rustle of the wind or the roar of the Sardinian deer for hearing, breathtaking views for the sight, the scent of the Mediterranean scrub for the sense of smell, what the earth offers us for the taste, the consistency of the rocks and lichens for the touch!

The strength of these elements and the surrounding environment create a perfect combination to make your stay at the Rifugio a regenerating holiday.

Setting

To have the opportunity to experience an active digital detox holiday, Il Rifugio offers a range of experiences that will stimulate the 5 senses.

The following collaborations are currently available. For the sense of smell with Dessy Parfum, the taste with the Agriturismo Montecresia, the sight with the photographer Maurizio Olla, the touch with the ceramist Martino Cappai.

The experience with Lucia by Dessy Parfum will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a sense that is sometimes taken for granted: smell. The peace of the Rifugio Sa Corti will allow you to have a deeper contact with what the smells of the place will communicate to you, but to connect even more deeply, we give you the opportunity to break down, essence by essence, the Mediterranean scrub that surrounds you. With Lucia you will talk about essences you know but that will appear unknown to you, you will smell unexpected perfumes, you will explore the many facets of a single fragrance. After the experience in the world of essences, your excursion around the Rifugio, immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, will be another discovery!

The experience with Agriturismo Monte Cresia will envelop several senses but the relevant one will be the taste.
In this experience you will be accompanied and guided by Giorgio from the family-run Monte Cresia farmhouse. Thanks to the knowledge of Giorgio, who has lived these places since he was a child, you will be able to get to know the hidden and little-traveled spots of the Sette Fratelli Park, be the actors in a series of activities that take place every day in the company and taste the products that are made. with a final aperitif.

The experience with the photographer Maurizio Olla will have sight as a sense of reference.
The activity will focus on biowatching or a new way of approaching nature, walking and looking everywhere, trying to observe and recognize the various forms of biodiversity, the different geological and morphological aspects, the fauna and flora. Maurizio, after a short lesson on using the camera (even a simple smartphone will be perfect) will help you capture the best details and views.

The experience with Martino Cappai aka Maru Yakimono, a ceramist of Sardinian origin but with a Japanese training background, will give life to the touch. The activity will be carried out in the garden of the Rifugio. Using the lathe you will create your work inspired by the surrounding nature. Martino will give you the opportunity to know and touch all the phases of realization.

Activities and attractions

The territory. The Forest of the Sette Fratelli

We are located within the Sette Fratelli Regional Park, a fascinating oasis in the south east of Sardinia. With about 60 thousand hectares of land, of which almost ten thousand covered with forests, the park is one of the largest in all of Italy. It is divided into various bodies of which the main one is called "Campu Omu". The forest, one of the best preserved in Sardinia, is one of the most interesting areas of the island from a landscape, wildlife and naturalistic point of view.

Its surface includes the mountainous peaks and the homonymous state forest, the forests of Castiadas and that of Monte Genis.

Its peaks reach about a thousand meters and can be reached via various marked trails that can be traveled both on foot and by mountain bike. The highest are Monte Aguzzo and Punta Ceraxa.

The protagonists of the park are the forest, waterfalls, natural pools, granite rocks, gorges and overhanging paresti, a true force of nature that make the landscape fascinating but made up of a complex ecosystem.

To be seen

The forest is a popular half for lovers of nature, trekking, mountain biking and climbing; for visitors there are numerous hiking trails, which allow you to reach the most valuable sites of the forest. At the disposal of visitors there is a visitor center, where it is possible to receive some information for a correct and safe use of the area, and to visit a museum dedicated to the Sardinian deer. The museum offers a broad reading of the suggestive world that surrounds the Sardinian deer, through naturalistic preparations, artistic canvases, dioramas, educational spaces and materials of high scientific interest. In the locality of Maidopis a botanical garden has been created which is also accessible to the blind; the path is in fact equipped with a rope handrail that accompanies the visitor to the rest stations, and leads to cross the Maidopis stream through a bridge accessible to all visitors where the visitor can stop in the shade of the holm oaks. The garden is equipped with an educational room, some areas equipped for picnics and a guardian point. It can be reached by car along the approximately 3 km of dirt road from Campu Omu to Maidopis.

Furthermore, at the mountain campsite in Bau Arrexini, there are areas equipped for barbecue.

Among the sites of archaeological interest, we will mention the nuraghe Sa Fraigada, a nuraghe of an essential planimetric type, which cleverly exploits and incorporates in its structure the rocky walls of the relief in which it is located and the Tomb of the giants Is Concias.

Hiking network of the Sette Fratelli

In 2017, interventions were carried out to re-arrange the Sette Fratelli Hiking Network. The paths of the paths historically known with the name of:
• Sentiero Italia
• Red path, yellow path, white path, green path, orange path, blue path.

These paths, in collaboration with the Cagliari section of the CAI SARDEGNA, during 2019 and 2020 were re-arranged (new horizontal signs and new arrows already put in place) according to the national and regional standard (RES) and re-named with numbers from the regional cadastre of trails:
• Sentiero Italia inside Sette Fratelli -> Path n. 800
• Path n.1 "red" -> Path number 811 and 811A (deer enclosure aka "nature path")
• Path n.2 "yellow" (from Maidopis to Perda sub'e Pari + "white" path) -> Path 812 (from Perda sub'e Pari to the forest track becomes 812A)
• Path n.4 “orange” -> Path 814
• Route 5 "green" -> Trail 815
In addition, the stages of the Sentiero Italia from Castiadas to Sette Fratelli (stage 28), and from Sette Fratelli to Punta Serpeddì (stage 26) passing through the (stage 27) have been completed. The recovery of the Italy path then continues north, to reach Monte Genis, Villasalto, Perdasdefogu, Ierzu ... and up to S. Teresa Gallura.

Climatic aspects. The climate is typically Mediterranean, characteristic of the southern Sardinian areas, with hot, long and dry summers that last for about four months, while the winter is mild and moderately rainy. During the winter, however, it is not uncommon to see the peaks of the Sette Fratelli whitened by heavy snow.

Geopedological aspects. From a geological point of view, the F. D. Sette Fratelli is characterized by extensive granite outcrops modeled by water erosion and wind. The waterways are mainly seasonal, while the altitude of the forest varies, reaching its highest point with the top of Punta Ceraxa and its 1016 meters.

Vegetational aspects. This sometimes impervious area has retained many strips of the typical vegetation cover of the island. The most widespread forest formation is the holm oak associated, depending on the situation, with the strawberry tree, broadleaf phillyrea, heather and viburnum. At medium-low altitudes there is also the cork oak. On the highest ridges, towards the peaks of the Sette Fratelli, there is pulvinus vegetation with Corsican broom, thyme, lavender, while along the riverbeds the riparian vegetation of oleander, willow and alder. The area is also rich in biodiversity and endemics.

Faunal aspects. The F. D. Sette Fratelli is certainly one of the areas of excellence for the Sardinian deer that has found refuge here and is now present in large numbers, thanks to the targeted actions for its protection and conservation carried out by the Sardinia Forestry Authority. The state-owned forest of Sette Fratelli is not only home to the Sardinian deer, but is a natural environment where you can meet, among others, the eagle, the marten, the fox and the Sardinian hare, as well as the very frequent wild boar.

How to reach it. Coming from the south (Cagliari) or from the opposite side (Muravera) of the state road n.125 (Orientale sarda) follow it up to the junction for Burcei. Here, in Valico Arcu 'e Tidu, at Km. 30.100, turn right (for those arriving from Cagliari) and after traveling for about 250 meters you will reach the former U. Noci barracks service center. Forest entrance GPS coordinates: N 39 ° 18 '19.4' 'E 9 ° 23' 38 '' (geographical coordinates DMS, reference system WGS84).

You have to take a car to reach "Rifugio Sa Corti".

The area doesn't allow signal telephone reception and other connection (internet). You have to move from the main road for 4 km and then you can reach the part of the park called Coroleddu where you will get telephone signal.

N.B.
The last kilometers before reaching the Rifugio are made of narrow road and sharp bends, typical of mountain roads.
To reach the house you have to do a little (100 meters after paved road) uphill dirty road with some hole. A economy car is enough but if you'll rent a car is better a Panda car.

About check-in. We have to meet at the Agriturismo Monte Cresia, 15/20 min. from Rifugio, (reach the house is not easy because there isn't a exact address, gps and internet doesn't work there). So we need arrange a exact time to be everything perfect.

Sport climbing is very popular in this part of Sardinia. Among the best known cliffs in the area are the rocks of Casteddu Arxiolu and the Becco dell'Aquila. They can be reached after a trek that starts from the Coroleddu area.
