Lido San Giovanni is, without a doubt, the first beach that is immediately after the gates of the old city, located on the Gallipolino promenade, near the town, the clubs and street vendors selling food and cold drinks during all hours of the day.
The stretch of coast that surrounds Lido San Giovanni is characterized by fine sand and crystal clear waters of modest depth, which make it easier for everyone to enjoy the sea, even the little ones who enjoy carefree on the shore.
The area has the same natural and scenic features of the entire coastal stretch of the Gallipolina area, confirming the presence of crystal clear and almost always calm waters, also due to the beneficial action of the north wind, as well as a golden sand colored with bright colors umbrellas and sun beds that remain open all day, until the last ray of sunshine before sunset.
From time to time it is possible to see small rocks that mostly resemble smooth, dark-colored stones on which it is easy to see crabs and other small marine animals that walk between one wave and another.
Activities and attractions
Gallipoli remains one of the most sought-after and popular destinations for spending the summer holidays in Salento, whether you are a group of young friends in search of the most unbridled fun, whether you want to travel with your family and with children in tow. What is striking about this town on the Ionian side is its frizantezza, the aromas that characterize it, which in summer go from that of the algae that the undertow leaves uncovered in the sun, to the scents of the sauces that prepare the various restaurants and that flood the alleys of the old part, but also the smell of popcorn, cotton candy, crepes, which come from the various stalls on Corso Roma.
A trip to Gallipoli always has its own because, in any season, but we know that summer is the period in which it is easier to cut out a parenthesis, a break, a moment of stop to fully enjoy your time free. Gallipoli is sea, it's boundless beaches, it's relaxation, but it's also a meeting point for young people who come from all over Italy and beyond.
There are many places of entertainment, ranging from discos, to equipped beaches that offer the chance to relax and bask in the sun during the day to have a tan to make envy and in the evening turn into real open-air discos, with lots of evenings with dj sets and cocktails to go go.
The part of Gallipoli that rises beyond the pier that connects the two areas of the city is an intense world, an explosion of colors, scents, sounds that has no equal. The alleys of the old city are a succession of emotions that take the form of villas and noble palaces, but also in characteristic dwellings that exude simplicity and modesty, with the clothes hanging out to wave in the sun, or the chairs stuffed on the door waiting for drops on fresh to welcome the elderly of the place, who observe the world with folded arms and a smile, greeting with nods of the head.
If you don't want to learn and live the most transgressive and commercial part of the city, but prefer to immerse yourself in the silence and quiet beauty of its monuments and historic buildings, Gallipoli offers a world to see
Like any self-respecting southern town, Gallipoli is obviously not far behind in terms of delicacies and typical dishes that draw on the seafaring tradition, made up of fresh fish and simple foods, but with bright and decisive flavors, with unique mixtures.
Dining here means sampling dishes that pay tribute to Gallipoli cuisine, made mostly of good fresh fish, cooked in unusual ways that bring out the taste.
