Tavira, crossed by the river Gilão, is one of the most fashionable cities in the Algarve. The Roman bridge links the city and gives a unique landscape, with the suggestion to enjoy savoring a traditional ice cream flavor fig.
To the beach can be reached from the city in boats (800 m from home) that transport to the Ilha de Tavira, or from the Four Waters, crossing an area of salt, full of birdlife. Nearby are the beaches of "Terra Estreita" and "Barril", with access from “Santa Luzia”. Fishermen land, “ Octopus capital”, which is about 3km from the center.
The “Terra Estreita” (Narrow Land) is accessible by boat. The “Barril” or through a tourist train or a pedestrian route 15 minutes.
Between Tavira and Monte Gordo there is about 25 km of sandy beach. In the opposite direction also find themselves beaches of the barrier islands that separate the ocean of “Ria Formosa”, the most southerly point of Portugal. Algarve coast area with warmer sea.
Activities and attractions
Ideal for nature tourism, landscape, birdwatching, shell-lovers and food tourism. Walking routes, boat or diving are some of the possibilities.
There are golf courses within 20 minutes. The airport is 30 minutes, Seville less than 2 hours and Lisbon to 3 hours. The highway access is 5 minutes.
To experience the city car is not essential, given the location of “Casa Leonor”. However it is recommended to know the area within a radius of 20 km mainly including barrocal Algarve (interior), rich in landscapes and traditional products.
