The living part of the house is located in the second floor of the house, on one level only. To reach it there are two external ramps with steps. You'll find a double room, another double room with an additional bunk bed. You'll find two double bedrooms, one has an additional bunk bed to accomodate two extra hosts.
In the living room there is a chimney, a sofa bed for two to sleep, and a big table for four (or six). The bathroom, located between the two bedrooms, has both shower and bathtub with a wall drying rack for your laundry. The kitchen is able to accomodate four people using the garden table, with chairs, available. You can use the same table to eat outside in a sunny day using its umbrella.
The stove has four fires and a oven. Unless you want to use plastic ware you'll find dishes, glasses, cutlery and crockery to prepare your food. Hot water is available as well as heating in case the weather is cold. A garden sunbed is available as well as an hammock that can be hung under the big cherry tree to fully relax. A microwave, a tv and a stereo set.
The house is located in Viorno, a tiny hamlet of Castellino Tanaro. It is possible to reach it through two ways: passing through Castellino village or directly from the river at Piantorre hamlet. The building is located in a hilly countryside, not isolated but neither immediately surrounded by other houses. The access is through a private road, so there is no passage of vehicles or people.
Behind the building there is a large area where one or more cars can easily maneuvre and park sheltered by the shade of our trees. In front side of the house there is only the passage to the parking while at the back there are only woods on the rising hill. Beside the house, over the access road, there is an garden with some fruit trees that used to be the orchard and can be now be enjoyed as a relaxing area for picnics or to sunbathe in perfect privacy.
Since not all walls are protected by railings or handrails, this area may not be suitable for younger children to be left alone. We are continuing to improve the facilities to make the house cozier and the area safer, without turning it too city-like. The other floors are used as stores, and therefore not accessible. The only visitors you may expect during your stay a few small wild animals or maybe some truffle hunters, usually passing by before dawn.
Activities and attractions
The Langhe area is very well known for its cultural, scenery, artistic, gastronomic and enologic attractions. The house is located at only one hour drive from Alba or half an hour from Mondovì with a cute Sunday market and a nearby shopping Outlet. You can't miss a visit to the Vicoforte Sanctuary and Mondovì Piazza village.
Ceva old town centre is a must-see as well, 10km. Nearby you can find some malls for food or other useful items and local shops for meat, cold cuts and typical products. On Wednesday and Saturday there is also a local market in the town's square. The "Feast in the Woods" takes place during the first week of August near Torresina village, an event with music, dances and food that attracts many people from all over Piedmont and Liguria.
The Mediterranean coast is only one hour drive from Viorno (60km), even though I personally discourage the trip during weekends due to the amout of tourists flooding the beaches in the summer time. If you are really missing a city and you are willing to reach Genova, about 110km, don't miss the Acquarium, a real wonder.

Loved the view of Alpi Marittime across the valley, quiet area, no traffic ; new-ish house but in lovely Italian style, like the others in this area. Did a sketch of nearby hill-top town, Castellino, in terracotta colour...looks like the quintessential Tuscan scene. Several towns for shopping within driving distance. Discovered what pecans, walnuts, sweet-chesnuts and almonds look like growing, along with figs, just by taking a walk along the road...the locals also grow grapes and tomatoes in their veg plots...a bonanza for an Irish person. Owner friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the record-player. Fridge not working so well, a clothes wash resulted in disaster. Sunbathed under a cherry tree ...the house has a garden. Cricket chorus would play in the evening.
