Absolutely charming accommodation situated in about 20 acres of its own land with no other houses on the land. It is about 2km from the main road and reached along a winding track (which has a tarmac surface). However although comparatively isolated, the house is within a few minutes drive of the picturesque village of Mutriku and the small town of Deba so shops and restaurants are easily available as are wide sandy beaches. It's not a holiday home as such as the owner, Juan Luis, an absolutely charming man who visited us on the first and last days of our visit to make sure everything was as we would wish, lives there in the non-holiday season. The quiet is amazing and the location of and views from, the house are absolutely outstanding. The house is very well equipped with heating (if required) provided by electric radiators and a wood burning fire for which plenty of wood and firelighters are available. As it was cool(ish) when we were there we did light the fire on a couple of occasions although really because it looks so nice rather than because it was necessary. There is a wide range of cooking utensils and for cooking there is a four ring induction hot plate, a microwave and a wood burning stove. We didn't use the stove as we were only there a week but I doubt there would be any problems. In fact Jean Luis uses it to bake bread! There is a washing machine and tumble drier available plus the usual range of entertainment facilities (TV, DVD and CD players etc). There is plenty of storage space, mainly drawers, for clothes and the bed we used was very comfortable. There is a single bathroom with an excellent shower. Overall we had a most delightful holiday and will definitely return. One final thing. If you need or would like fresh milk, which isn't readily available in shops and supermarkets, you can get some from the nearby farm The Basque for "Hello. Please can I have some milk" is "Kaixo (Hello). Mesedes (please) esne (milk) pixhat (some). Kaixo is pronounced Kay-ee-show and Pixhat is pronounced Pishkat. The farmer understood what two Australians were asking for so many thanks to Juan Luis for his quick lesson on what words to use and how to say them!
A little gem in the middle of country side
We (2 ads & 2 boys) stayed at Mizkia cabin in August 2011, it is a great location, very peaceful and extremely well equipped. We enjoy cooking and there was everything we could have wanted in the kitchen - the wood burning oven is great, but there is also a more conventional 4 ring hob and microwave if you prefer that. There is a supermarket at the bottom of the hill, but we preferred the smaller shops you could find in the nearby towns and villages (although it did take us a little while to find them). In terms of activities for us all to enjoy, we spent quite a lot of time on beaches - one very close at the bottom of the hill, and some further afield. We also visited Bilbao (by car) and San Sebastian by train - both well worth a visit. We were there during the August festival so got to see the Basque celebrations in full swing. If you want a taste of the real Spain (or Basque Country) then this is a great area to visit, you will find few other British tourists around.
House with top privacy, space, view and quiteness
Our family stayed at the Mizkia house in the second half of July 2010. This combines soberness with luxury. All necessary equipment is available: dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, barbecue, spacious bathroom. But these are not the main features of Mizkia. The main feature is that you will find 20 of hectares of space in a beautiful environment, that you will experience full privacy and calmness, that you can fully relax and rest. At the same time the villages of Muriku and Deba are nearby where you can walk the streets, go to bars and restaurants, go to the beach, suirf or bodyboard and whatever. A supermarket is at the end of the 2 km plus road that leads to the house. From Deba you van take the hourly train to Zarautz, San Sebastian of Bilbao. These places can also be reached within a hour by car. If you want to go walking: GR walking paths are near the house and in the vicinity there are lots of well marked trails. The owner, Juan Luis Osa, is a kind and friendly person. We highly recommend this house. You will get a lot of value for your money.
