Setting

Elegant and typical, as well as historic tourist town, located between SANREMO 4 km to the east and BORDIGHERA 4 km to the west. Connection by public bus service with frequency every 30 minutes. Stop just 10 meters outside the upper gates of the Rosengarten Complex in which the SOLARIA vacation apartments are located.

In Ospedaletti you will find a beautiful promenade shaded by century-old plane trees, with several cafes/ice cream parlors and bars. One is precisely the Alexandra bar located right in front of the former Grande Albergo Regina, now converted into apartments belonging to private individuals. Next to the Regina, , in the middle of a garden, you can see what was during the 1800s/early 1900s the first Casino d'Italia unfortunately now in a state of neglect, . Recently the municipality acquired the property and there is a plan to use this site for tourist/social functions such as concerts, congresses, events, etc.
In front of the Regina are public gardens with tennis courts and children's playgrounds. Turning left going west of Bar Alexandra is the pharmacy in case of need.
Other cafés/bars and restaurants can be found mainly along the Lungomare where the second and new sea promenade runs. All the different restaurants are of excellent quality and mostly specialise in Ligurian seafood cuisine based on fish and TAGGIASCA quality olive oil, which has been cultivated on the hills behind the Riviera dei Fiori from Albenga to the French border since 1200. The closest of these restaurants to our flats is BIBLOS, but walking along the promenade you will come across several others, all of excellent quality.
The aforementioned seaside promenade, which was recently built after the old railway line was moved to a tunnel, and which runs at the base of the village for about 1500 metres, includes quays facing the sea, a pedestrian area and a cycle path that extends from Ospedaletti towards the east, now as far as Imperia P.M., still along the coast, passing through Sanremo and all the other tourist centres in the area. Bicycles of various types are available for hire near the old railway station, no longer in use, and along the entire route.

Activities and attractions

POSSIBLE EXCURSIONS FROM HOSPITALITY:

1) MONACO/MONTECARLO. About 35 km. West direction. With this excursion you will be at the center of the social life of the French Riviera. You can park your car in front of the famous Casino in the parking lots located under the Gardens and you can visit the most elegant fashion shops located around the Casino itself. You can also stop at the Caffè de Paris (left looking at the entrance to the Casino) and have a drink or even a small refreshment. Afterwards we recommend going to the opposite side of the square next to the Hotel Hermitage where there is a bus stop for MONACO VILLE, with which you will reach the seat of the Principality, which you can explore on foot and where you can visit the famous Aquarium. Once you return to the stop point, wait for the bus with the Casino sign that will take you back to the starting point. If you are not experienced it is not advisable to venture by car due to traffic and one-way streets and tunnels even if with excellent signs.

2) VENTIMIGLIA. Friday Market: This is the most important local market on the Riviera where you can find everything at a good price. It is recommended to go by public bus or by train. In the latter case, since the Ospedaletti station is no longer in operation, you must go by train to Bordighera or Sanremo and take the train from there. In Ventimiglia another visit worthy of interest is the one dedicated to the HAMBURY BOTANICAL GARDENS, but given the size of the Gardens themselves it is advisable to do it on a separate day. These gardens are also a legacy from an English scholar in love with the Riviera dei Fiori, in which he had collected plants and flowers found all over the world and which are now managed by the Institute of Ligurian Studies on behalf of the Liguria Region. Summer visiting hours: 09.30-19.00, entrance fee € 09.00.

3) BORDIGHERA. About 4 km. To the west of Ospedaletti you will find yourself in another famous tourist resort on the Riviera dei Fiori, discovered by the English aristocracy in 1800 thanks to the famous book set there, “Il Dottor Antonio” written by Domenico Ruffini, which tells a sweet but tragic love story between a young daughter of an aristocratic English family and a Sicilian doctor, which blossomed among the flowers and gardens and palm trees of this romantic city. In addition to the main street, we recommend seeing the Via Romana, a more internal parallel road that can be reached by turning right into Corso Italia in front of the train station and the beautiful seafront promenade.

Also interesting is a visit to the Birknel Museum (on the Via Romana) where you can see the rock carvings found by this English researcher on Mount Begu and in the Valley of Wonders, as well as a garden with centuries-old trees that have become a Forest Heritage of the Italian State and managed by the Institute of Ligurian Studies.

4) TAGGIA AND THE ARGENTINA VALLEY
Drive through Sanremo to Arma di Taggia. When you reach a large roundabout with the wrought iron writing of the Argentina Valley, turn left towards the hinterland. Driving along the Argentina River you enter this valley dotted with numerous medieval villages that are still very inhabited today, such as Badalucco and Molini di Triora. In each of these there are excellent trattorias where you can taste typical products of the Ligurian countryside cuisine, such as Ravioli al Suco, Ligurian rabbit in addition to the typical tasty Branda Cujun etc. After Molini di Triora you can reach TRIORA located about 900 meters above sea level. This typical hill town has become famous for the legend linked to witches and you can visit a small museum dedicated to it.

5) THE VAL NERVIA .Approximately 20 km. This excursion offers an interesting day and can be done using your own car. Drive first to BORDIGHERA , then passing by the Via Romana until the village of Vallecrosia after which you will arrive at the bridge over the Nervia stream (without water during the summer months) , after the bridge turn right. The first village you will cross is Camporosso but the most interesting location is the next village DOLCEACQUA. Here it is worth stopping for a visit to the old part of the village, which is on the right side, going toward the mountains, of the river. While the modern part is on the opposite side. To go to the old part you can cross the two bridges, the new one or the old one and then it is worth taking a tour of the little alleys of the old part, locally called “ carruggi ”
Near the modern bridge there is the patronal church that is worth visiting and next to it there is a restaurant where you can taste local specialties such as Ravioli al sugo or rabbit Ligurian style accompanied by local Rossese wine, while the other wine always of local production called Vermentino goes better with fish.
Before leaving Dolceacqua pay another visit to the OLD CASTLE that once belonged to the family of the Doria princes of Genoa who ruled this part of Liguria in their time.

Two other interesting villages to visit after Dolceacqua are Rocchetta Nervina
and Apricale, and later further inland in the valley Pigna and Castel Vittorio.
