The accommodation

Casa do Feitor is a rustic stone house. It is part of a property known since the 17th century as Casa de Mosqueiros, a manor house built in the 17th century and granted a coat of arms by King João III, with a historic garden featuring camellias and topiary boxwood, farmland and agricultural outbuildings.

During the restoration of the property, a large swimming pool with a capacity of 100 m² was added.

The name ‘Casa de Mosqueiros’ comes from the fact that it is located next to a place that has always been used for trout fishing (the well-known “mosqueiros” of the Basto region, where fishing with a hook called a ‘fly’ has always been practised).

Casa de Mosqueiros has a beautiful garden of camellias and topiary boxwood (a characteristic ‘Basto garden’) which has been part of the itinerary of gardens visited during the International Camellia Festival, which takes place every March in Celorico de Basto.

The ‘Casa do Feitor’ has been restored, taking advantage of what was once the residence of the farm manager, and is decorated in a cheerful, rustic style, with care and good taste.

It has two bedrooms, one double and one twin, two bathrooms, a living room with kitchenette, and an outdoor balcony overlooking the manor house.

The Casa do Feitor is fully equipped, including crockery, bed linen and table linen.

Laundry services are also available and bicycles can be hired.

The farm has animals (dogs, cats, sheep, chickens and guinea pigs) and practises agriculture (for home consumption and small-scale sale), producing an extremely refreshing white vinho verde that accompanies any meal to perfection and is also much appreciated as an aperitif.
We can offer guests seasonal vegetables from our garden if they wish to prepare a meal, as well as fruit from the orchard.
The farm is also an exceptional venue for birthday parties, anniversaries and other celebrations.

Setting

Casa de Mosqueiros is located in Mosqueiros, in the parish of Britelo, municipality of Celorico de Basto, in the northern region of Portugal known as the Terras de Basto region, surrounded by the Gerês, Alvão and Marão mountains. Very close to the city of Amarante, it can be reached from the city of Porto via the A4 motorway to Amarante, and from there, via the national road for another 17 kilometres to Celorico de Basto. Casa de Mosqueiros is located on the way to the river beach of the Tâmega River, on a road that descends from the Mother Church, which is about 1000 metres away.

Activities and attractions

Guests can enjoy the Tâmega river beach, known as Praia do Vau, and a picnic basket can be prepared for a minimum of two people.
The Tâmega River is ideal for water sports, such as swimming and canoeing.

The region offers excellent conditions for walking or cycling, as the house is very close to an eco-trail built on what was once the Tâmega railway line. Cycling is very popular in the region, with the highlight being the climb to Senhora da Graça (whose peak can be seen from the property) as part of the Volta a Portugal cycling race.

Walks around the farm or in the surrounding area, swimming in the pool (100m2), jogging, sampling the local cuisine and green wines of this region (the white wine produced on the farm is an excellent choice), visiting cities of great cultural and tourist interest such as Amarante (17 km away), Braga or Guimarães (the latter, 30 km away, named European Capital of Culture in 2012), as well as trout fishing (the farm is crossed by a trout river, hence its name) are some of the many alternatives.

Unless you simply prefer to relax and enjoy the sun, the pool, the peaceful countryside and the beauty of the historic garden (with boxwood and camellias).

From the pool area, the view stretches across the farm's green fields, dotted with sheep grazing all day long, creating a bucolic atmosphere and contributing to an extremely restful contact with nature.

If you visit us during the grape harvest season, you can participate in the work or just watch.

The farm has stone wine presses that are still used in the preparation of wine.
