The accommodation

Three villas are available to rent: houses 1 and 2 each sleep four people, whilst the main house sleeps nine. They are located near the beach and are fully equipped. The CASA GRANDE is a 150-square-metre villa with an outdoor terrace and a back door leading to a barbecue area. It is situated on a 1,000-square-metre plot with spacious gardens and private parking. The house is equipped with a small ozone generator and another in the fridge to keep the environment free of odours and microbes. A spacious, bright dining room with a table for ten, connected to the kitchen (dishwasher, oven, microwave, washing machine...) via a breakfast bar. 3 bedrooms, each with a double bed and a single bed (90cm) with a built-in wardrobe. 2 bathrooms, one with a bath and the other with a shower. A large barbecue area with a worktop and sink, a stone-built table for 14 diners surrounded by a spacious garden shaded by a hundred-year-old wild olive tree, with an outdoor hot-water shower. The whole setting is a haven of tranquillity and privacy for your relaxation. Bicycles and a safe are provided. HOUSES 1 AND 2 are newly built 60-square-metre houses situated on a 300-square-metre plot each and feature a terrace and a spacious garden with a barbecue, an outdoor sink and an outdoor hot-water shower, with private parking. Fortnightly stays consist of 15 days and 14 nights.

Setting

Los Caños de Meca-Zahora is situated at Cape Trafalgar, the site of the famous naval battle from which it takes its name. It is situated within the Las Breñas y Marismas de Barbate y Cabo de Trafalgar Natural Park, one of the last remaining unspoilt areas in Spain, and features one of the most striking features of the Cadiz coastline: the cliffs of Los Caños de Meca, rising to a maximum height of over 100 metres above sea level. An extensive forest of stone pines, accompanied by junipers, cypresses and Mediterranean scrub, stretches right up to these cliffs. Seagulls, egrets, kestrels and barn owls are some of the common birds of prey found in this forest ecosystem. Six beaches of fine white sand and crystal-clear water ensure you can enjoy them in peace and without crowds, even during the peak tourist season. Furthermore, the buildings, mostly consisting of isolated rural dwellings in the typical Andalusian style, guarantee a low population density during the summer months. Sport fishing, scuba diving, canoeing, mountain biking, windsurfing and surfing, alongside horse riding and hiking, are some of the activities favoured by visitors to this area due to its unbeatable conditions. Restaurants where you can sample the finest fresh fish, along with bars and other leisure and entertainment venues, provide the perfect ingredients for a unique holiday.

One of the interesting tourist attractions worth visiting, yet little known to most people, is the Las Breñas dovecote, situated in the heart of the Las Breñas and Barbate Marshes Natural Park. This dovecote holds the Guinness World Record for the largest of its kind; it was built in the 1700s and has a capacity of 7,770 nests.

Activities and attractions

The beaches of Caños de Meca, as well as El Palmar and Barbate, offer you the chance to enjoy a wide range of activities: riding the waves on a surfboard, watching the sunset on one of the beaches, strolling amongst cliffs and secluded coves, going scuba diving around the Trafalgar lighthouse, or setting sail on a boat.

Furthermore, being right in the heart of La Breña and Barbate Marshes Natural Park gives you the chance to explore more of the natural surroundings and, therefore, go on hiking trails.
