Ca l'Anglés - Rural Horizons rural accommodation on the Cistercian Route, Conca de Barberà. A fully renovated, eco-friendly, and very comfortable old stone house, perfect as a holiday base on the Cistercian Route, with fantastic views from the Pyrenees to the Camp de Tarragona region.

Nearby is a luxury thalassotherapy center (€26/2h). All the Cistercian monasteries are close by, with natural landscapes, caves, and swimming pools. Sleeps 6-7 people upstairs, and 3 more downstairs. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, plus one downstairs. The altitude (865m) provides a refreshing coolness in summer; while down below on the coast you sleep sweating in the sticky heat, here it's wonderfully cool. Which explains why air conditioning isn't necessary! Optional services: - Internet: via fiber optic Wi-Fi. - Sauna: €5 / person / 30 min. Only very well-behaved pets, such as lapdogs, are allowed. The thick stone walls maintain a pleasant coolness in summer and warmth in autumn or spring. The well-equipped kitchen even includes a pizza oven. Bed linen and towels are included. Setting

Located on a hilltop peak which marks the watershed between the beautiful immense view of the Conca de Barbera in front and the Valley of the Corb behind with fascinating towns like Guimerà, Ciudadilla, or Vallfogona of Riucorb, where there is an excellent public pool (3 €) underused in summer.
The Cistercian Route (GR171) passes our front door, and its crossing-point with the Ancient Trail of the Camino de Santiago, the Camí de St. Jaume (GR175) next to the house, marked by a mediaeval cross, next to the village pond that ducks only enjoy today. Hopefully you will see the eagles using wind currents climbing the Conca with their aerobatics over the stones of the village.
The walk from behind the pond goes through a beautiful valley, with several interesting stones, and leads to the rebuilt hamlet of El Fonoll, famous for being nudist in summer.
In the villages nearby there are Wine Cellers of Art Nouveau style, which sell good high quality wines well-priced and undeservedly little-known.
Abundant cultural life in the area; museums in Montblanc; Megalithico and Rupestre Art, in Verdú there is the Contemporary Art Center, which is open for gastronomic experiences at weekends, and in the town of Espluges de Francoli, as well as the very famous well-lit Subterranean Caves, there is the Museum of Rural Life.
Unmissable: The Gaudí Centre in Plaza Mayor (Main Square) of Reus, the birthplace of Gaudi.

Activities and attractions

The Route of the Cistercians is an Ancient Track that passes in front of our house, consists of a little more than 100 km between the National Monument Monasteries of Santes Creus, historically fascinating , Vallbona de les Monges, curious and still actively consacrated, and Poblet, beautiful and universally appreciated, to be walked (5/7 days), by bicycle (3/4 days) or car. Halfway between the Montes del Priorat, the Sierra de Prades, and the sacred mountain of Montserrat, Forès is an unforgettable experience. The views as far as the coast to the front, and from the back of the village over to the chain of the Pyrenees, give one an appetite for discovery of a land full of mysteries, history, and sites that deserve further study. Here in the Marca Hispanica, where the struggle between the Moors and Christian civilizations was decided after 400 years of cultural frontier , leading to the tradition of the Templars, paths trodden after the Cathars, everyone will find a story that will encourage further exploration of stories and legends.
