Setting

The Celio district takes its name from one of the seven mythical hills of ancient Rome. Throughout history its appearance has undergone various changes: in the Imperial Age it was the home of patrician houses, pagan temples and public buildings, gradually depopulating with the fall of the Roman Empire and becoming a rural area with vineyards, vegetable gardens in the Middle Ages and a single urban route - via San Giovanni in Laterano - where the papal processions directed to the Basilica passed. In 1600 a slow recovery of the urbanization of the territory began, which was intensified in the second half of the 800, leading to the current urban configuration.
Despite being a very central district, the Celio has not been touched by the chaos and frenzy of the modern city, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere of the past with its narrow streets and its art and craft shops, where you can make good purchases. In the evening the neighborhood takes on a different and lively aspect, livening up with the constant coming and going of the patrons of the numerous Roman trattorias, pizzerias, wine bars, pubs and ice cream parlors (we will not hesitate to recommend our favorite places). A few steps from the house, there are the beautiful gardens of the ancient Villa Celimontana, where you can walk and relax in the shade of the trees; the complex hosts musical events on summer evenings.
Bordering the Celio, a few minutes by road, the Monti district extends, famous for the Colle Oppio Park and for the frenetic nightlife in its narrow streets.
