The accommodation

An unique 5* Villa with own pool and 5 bedrooms, newly refurbished in beautiful tranquil Alentejo, we believe originally a Historical Coaching Inn of wonderful vaulted ceilings reputed to have been favoured by Travelling & Hunting Aristocracy in years gone by. Giving your family both space and privacy which a Hotel cannot achieve! Come an enjoy this wonderful large stylish Villa set in peaceful and quiet surroundings enjoying its own beautiful gardens with courtyard and many fruit trees.

Each of our rooms benefits from having its own private bathroom with shower, good internet access (Starlink 50Mbp) and a comfortable bed. Rooms 5 and 4 have direct access to the pool, 3 and 2 have direct access to a private patio, whilst Room 1 has its own flower field garden that it's lovely in the morning to enjoy the sun and cool in the afternoon.

All the rooms have independent access to the modern Kitchen, the lounge area, the large dining room with traditional furniture and of course, all can access the pool and gardens without having to disturb any of the other guests.

The large pool and inviting sundeck are the central point of the home. There is a lot of space for gathering for meals, chatting, of simply sitting in the deck-chairs as the sun recharges your batteries.
Monte da Estalagem is offered on a self-catering basis. There is a fully equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer, hob, dishwasher, cutlery, crockery and equipment.

Setting

Our local village Vimieiro (5 minutes’ drive) has an excellent convenience store, pharmacy, clinic, petrol station etc. to cover most of your needs. And there are 3 or 4 major supermarkets in the towns nearby.
Lisbon airport is 90mins drive

Eating out:
- Vimieiro has a few local restaurants, the most notable being Tremelega. Check out their page to get to know them.
- Nearby, in Estremoz you can find Gadanha Mercearia, an excellent restaurant which offers traditional regional dishes with a modern twist and has a spectacular wine cellar. One other option is Alecrim, a lovely restaurant with an updated version of local dishes and a large collection of wines. You can also visit Venda Azul which is a very traditional restaurant, really popular amongst the locals. It has a great service and massive portions. Howard's Folly is an adega/bar/restaurant with a modern an sophisticated décor, that serves petiscos (the Portuguese version of tapas).
-In Évora you have an enormous variety of options for all tastes, form sushi, to burger places, to fine dining and everything that you want.
- You can also visit the Subtilia Wagyu here in Venda do Duque to purchase some real wagyu meat to cook in our BBQ facilities.

Activities and attractions

Activities:
- From your base at Monte da Estalagem you can find so many activities to cater to every need like hiking and cycling.
- You can visit Évora which is classified as Unesco World Heritage and will be the Capital of European Culture in 2027. There is so much ancient monuments to explore like the Roman Temple or even churches and cathedrals. You can also enjoy just to walk around the city defensive walls. For the most adventurous ones you can also go karting.
- In Evoramonte there is a beautiful castle for you to explore.
- In Arraiolos you can also visit the castle, as well as museums of this typical tapestry and get to know the traditional pastry.
- You can take advantage of our location being nearby the wine route path through Alentejo and visit some vineyards like Mainova, Herdade das Servas, Adega do Monte Branco, Monte da Comenda, and many others, and do a wine tasting.
All these activities are within about 30 minutes’ drive. It is great to combine your stay with so much activity – but not to forget the special time for yourself and your family right here on the property.
