We spent a thoroughly enjoyable week here in Sept. Jill was a very helpful and pleasant host , showing us round and giving us all the information that we required The house is in a very quiet hamlet at the top of a valley with splendid views over the surrounding countryside. The house is very comfortable and well equipped , and I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet and peaceful place to stay while exploring this beautiful part of Portugal

We are family with two kids. We had very good time in Casa de Xisto. Very quiet village but close enough for some interesting villages, The house is large enough for family with 2 – 4 kids, nicely decorated and equipped, only down side is the lack of outside shed and furniture except for a plastic dining table (but great view). Good value.

very nicely renovated original slate house

We stayed at Jane's house for 5 nights in July 2012. The house is situated in a very small village at the end of a serpentine with a very nice view over the valley. We can recommend the house to all those who want to escape from traffic and tourism and dive into pure nature with its peace and quiet. We can also recommend to swim in the river Alva - there's a very nice natural swimming pool! For trips to the Serra d'Estrela you have to calculate an approx. two hours drive - it seems a little closer on the map than it actually is. Jane is a fantastic host and lives very close to the slate house. She is always happy to answer any questions or help you out, if you need anything!
