The Riviera between myth & nature
Is a green stretch of land on the Tyrrhenian sea, rich of historic and archaeological sites and natural beauty. Surrounded by mountains the weather is mild attracting visitors all year round. The old origins of the coastal cities contribute to the fascination of the area: Terracina, known as the "doorway to the sun" was founded by the Etruscans, enriched by the Romans with imposing buildings. Tempio of Giove and the old Via Appia. Sperlonga, medieval town built on a rocky promontory, used to be a target for pirates but also a favorite piace for the emperor Tiberius where he built his villa. Formia, the "good harbor", legendary place of the Laestrigons, fierce cannibals, they decided Ulysses fate allowing him to go home. Gaeta, Burbonic town, protected by high walls and towers that surround medieval churches. Minturno, a very important place on the Via Appia, a city that the Romans enriched with a theatre still today well preserved. Ponza, island of Dawn, where according to tradition was the residence of the Maga Circe.
The inland is characterized by natural beauty spots such as the Circeo (National Park), which includes the Dunes of Sabaudia, the island of Zannone, the lakes of Sabaudia. Ninfa, known as "the Pompei of the Middle Ages" with its magical oasis, and its beautiful italian garden. Fondi with its great Caetani castle, and its oranges that impressed Goethe. Art and culture, ancient history, folklore and traditional cousine, makes this one of the most beautiful and well preserved Rivieras of the italian coastline.
